If you are at the planning stage of your start up in Ireland here are two pieces of information I wish I knew a couple of years ago.
1. Enterprise Ireland are a great organisation. If you are a start up dont expect instant gratification, instead treat your dealings with them in the same manner as you would strategic account management. You (start ups) are in a hurry to do things yesterday, EI is a multi layer organisation that has to follow processes and procedures. Have patience!
2. If you are in the shit situation of needing funding PLEASE remember this advice. Do not focus all your energy on just acquiring the necessary amount of capital. Take a close look at who is offering it and do a detailed analysis of WHY they are offering the capital. Background check angel investors. Be thorough. Dedicate time to this. If the relationship doesnt feel quite right - do not proceed. Personally, I would never again engage with a first time angel investor. More on this later......
3. Have a back up plan. Scrap that. Have a good back up plan!
